Over and over I am learning that weight loss really is more than just dropping the pounds. It really entails a whole re-education of one’s lifestyle, habits and understanding of the self. This realization came to me the other day when I met up with an old friend of mine, who happens to be a registered dietitian. I don’t need to take a medical management course to know that though biology contributes to weight issues,  a big chunk of it is related to emotional issues.

Yes, there is really more to weight management than meets the eye.

Blogging about my weight loss has allowed me to manage my weight issues more effectively. I’m not going to say that I don’t have my off days, but having this has allowed me to be more aware of things. Having a regular audience and a virtual cheering squad allows me to be okay. It does help to have a weight loss consultant, I have to say, but in the absence of that, the blogging helps. That’s what I told my dietitian friend.

One of my goals with this blog is to share that knowledge with others. I may not have taken any weight loss consultant interview courses or a  medical teaching course for that matter,  I do know that sharing my experiences can help others also battle the bulge. At least I hope so :)

It was nice to catch up with my friend the other day and having that chance to talk was quite good for both of us, I’d like to think :) In a way, my being a psychologist perhaps served as a so-to-speak “teach the teacher course” for both of us and now we have new ways of looking at weight, how to help others lose weight, and how to be more aware about the whole weight thing.
