There’s really something magical about the human touch, wouldn’t you agree? It’s like no matter what, a quick pat on the back, a stroke on the arm, or a strong hug has the power to take away any pain or hurt one is feeling.
I see a lot of this with my kids in class whenever they feel bad about something. For some reason, whenever they are upset or hurt, all they need is a hug and a cuddle from Teacher and all is well. Of course I don’t discount the fact that I also apply ice packs or put ointment when the need arises, but more than those remedies, the kids seem to find more comfort in my touch.
As we get older, we tend to take care of our aches and pains with medication and what not, often discounting the fact that a simple touch can work just as well. For me, I find that after a long week’s work, especially those that were emotionally challenging and draining, a good massage helps soothe my tired and weary self. It goes beyond just the physical feeling of relief and comfort, but it goes deep down to the core of me. I don’t really know how to better explain it, but there’s really a mind-body connection in there somewhere.

Islands Massage Day and Mobile Spa
Speaking of massages, a few weeks ago (soooo sorry for the late post!) I was invited to try out the services of Islands Massage and Mobile Day Spa and my golly, all the knots in my back went popping away as the therapist rubbed and kneaded it. Suffice it to say, it was one of the better massages I had had in a long, long time. The nice thing about Islands Massage is that you can opt to either have them come over to your place or go down to their little cozy spot in Makati. They can service even as far as Merville if need be, but of course with a fee. What I liked about the service is that the masseuse that worked with me did know exactly what she was doing (unlike others I have tried in the past, where it seems they only learned their technique by watching videos or taking a massage therapy program online but without actual practice or supervision) so she did hit the right spots so to say. I also liked the very serene and relaxing ambiance of the spa, even if it is a small space. Despite the fact that they could squeeze in an extra bed or two to maximize their space, I like how the owners have opted to keep it the way it is
Today wasn’t an especially great day and errr…..um….being an emotional eater got in the way. Sadness. I should have just called for a masahista (masseuse) instead of passing by the grocery on my way home. Stooopid me. Hay. Oh…for those living in the South like me, according to Janice, the owner of Islands Massage Mobile and Day Spa, they hope to open a branch in our neck of the woods soon! Will keep you posted!!!
